The Web Advisory Committee Project Narrative describes how this committee developed the new MLA web site.
Charge: The MLA Web Advisory Committee (WAC) is charged to work with MLA staff to assess and guide MLA's Web presence, developing short- and long-term plans for the MLA Web site and its unit components. The WAC is committed to the goals for MLA's Web site:
- To provide an attractive, functional and easy-to-use Web site to facilitate and foster communication across unit lines and build community within the entire MLA membership population.
- To provide professional development opportunities in the form of Web-based courses, publications, chat rooms, etc.
- To look for ways to reduce publication/mailing costs and enhance MLA revenues through Web-based distribution of information and development of new services.
- To reduce redundancy of data entry requirements and time-consuming registration processes for both MLA members and staff, freeing up more time for member activities.
- To maintain a presence on the Internet that reflects to the public the professionalism and commitment of MLA members to all types of Michigan libraries.
