Donate to MLA

There are several opportunities for members and others to donate and support libraries and the library profession. Please review the following funds that contribute to the professional development of individuals, to intellectual freedom, and to sustaining long-term advocacy for libraries. All contributions are tax-deductible.

Education Fund: Helps underwrite such things as our prestigious Leadership Academy and defrays costs for library staff to attend workshops and conference at discounted rates.

Advocacy Fund: This fund enables MLA to advocate for library interests at the state, federal and judicial levels. For example, this year MLA filed two amicus curaie briefs, one to the Court of Appeals and one to the Supreme Court in support of a public library’s rights to govern and regulate its own resources. This case is more commonly known as the Bloomfield Township Public Library “nonresident” case. If the library position is not upheld, it could have a significant, detrimental impact on local library funding. This fund supports future legal and advocacy needs.

Intellectual Freedom Defense Fund: Helps MLA assist libraries and patrons with specific intellectual freedom challenges and produce the intellectual freedom guide.
