MLA Calls for Board Nominations
/* if author/date info present display info */ ?>The MLA Board of Directors is seeking candidates for the 2010 Board election. In April, members will vote for an MLA president-elect and three member-at-large board positions, each for a three-year term beginning July 2010 and ending June 2013. The nominations process begins with an open call for nominations for Board positions. This call invites all MLA members to nominate a colleague or to self-nominate. The Nominating Committee will review all nominations and may also seek additional individuals to meet identified needs. All nominees must be members of MLA at the time the slate is presented to the membership. It is anticipated that 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 will be extremely challenging years for Michigan, libraries and the Michigan Library Association. The Nominating Committee is seeking candidates who have strategic skill sets to govern a professional, nonprofit association. For the 2010 election, skills especially needed include: reasonably well-engaged and up-to-speed regarding MLA's change process, big picture/global outlook, commitment to the board for three years, speaking/public presentation skills, the ability to persuade and influence, marketing skills and director-level individuals who can influence other directors and appeal to institutions or senior-level individuals with ambition to greater leadership. General skills needed include strategic planning, finance, legal, organizational development, change management, development/fundraising, human resources and attention to detail.
The submission deadline for the Call for MLA Board Nominations is January 31. To submit a nomination, please complete the nomination form and e-mail it to Gretchen Couraud at couraudg@mlcnet.org.
