Multicultural Roundtable Goals During the MLA 2003 Annual Conference the Membership Committee organized a discussion relating  to the development of the Multicultural Roundtable.  Multicultural is broadly defined to include ethnicity, race, sexual orientation, and gender. Participants recommended that the goals of the roundtable should be:

1. To empower library boards and staff to reach out to diverse populations.
2. To increase the skill of library staff in working effectively with diverse populations
3. To increase library programs and services to diverse communities in local areas.
4. To promote recruitment and retention of underrepresented diverse populations into the library profession.
